The 2026 FIFA World Cup runs from June 11 to July 19, and here at The Olympic we are making the most of it. We are launching the World Cup Challenge — a members-only training challenge that runs the full length of the tournament. Train consistently, hit your target, and earn a free month on your membership.
No prize draw. No luck involved. Just showing up and doing the work.
What Is the World Cup Challenge?
The World Cup Challenge is a five-week training incentive for members of The Olympic Pools and Fitness Centre in Newmarket, Auckland. Every time you train, you earn Goals. Hit 40 Goals before the final whistle on July 19 and you win a free month on your membership — automatically added, no strings attached.
It is our way of rewarding the members who make training a habit, and giving everyone a bit of extra motivation to keep showing up through the winter months.
How to Earn Goals
Every training activity earns you a Goal. Here is how it works:
Any facility visit earns 1 Goal, tracked automatically through your check-in. A 500-metre or longer swim earns 1 Goal, confirmed by our poolside staff. A 3-kilometre or longer treadmill run earns 1 Goal, logged at reception. Attending a group fitness class earns 1 Goal per visit. Wearing your team jersey into the facility earns 1 Goal, confirmed by staff. Referring a friend who signs up as a member earns you 5 Goals in one go — the fastest way to close the gap if you need to catch up.
You can earn multiple Goals in a single visit. Come in, swim your laps, jump into a class, and wear your jersey — that is three Goals right there.
How Tracking Works
Your Goals are tracked at reception. Each visit, let our front desk team know what activities you completed and they will update your tally. You can ask at any point during the challenge to check where you are at.
The challenge runs from Thursday June 11 through to Sunday July 19, 2026. That is 39 days and plenty of opportunity to hit 40 Goals if you are training regularly.
The Prize
Every member who reaches 40 Goals wins a free month on their membership. There is no cap on winners — this is not a competition against other members, it is a personal challenge between you and the scoreboard. If you hit 40, you win. Full stop.
Why We Love Challenges Like This
We have been running The Olympic since 1994, and one thing we know for certain is that members who train with a goal in mind — even a simple one — train more consistently and get better results. A challenge like this gives you a reason to show up on the days when motivation is low, and it makes every session feel like it counts toward something.
Winter in Auckland is not the barrier people think it is. Our 50-metre pool is heated, the gym is warm, and group fitness classes run seven days a week. The only thing that changes in winter is the weather outside. Everything inside stays exactly the same.
Get Involved from June 11
The challenge is open to all current members of The Olympic. Just come in from June 11, train as usual, and start logging your Goals at reception. If you are not yet a member and want to join in, come and talk to our team about a membership — we would love to have you.
We will also be screening the major World Cup matches on the gym TVs throughout the tournament, so you can train hard and then watch the game. Best of both worlds.
See you on the floor.
