Health in lockdown, the key to keeping your wellness.
As disappointing as it is, lockdown is back in Auckland / New Zealand. That means for most of us, we are confined to our home bubbles. The Olympic Pools and Fitness Centre is closed due to level 4 restrictions, which means, we can’t get the usual workout or swim.
The most important thing to look after, is yourself…
It is very simple to start to laze into the home surroundings. Whether that is by watching Netflix shows back to back (to back), or opening up the fridge at 2:00pm for a “cold one”…because, why not?. Your mental and physical health can take a pretty quick downturn. It is very important to think about YOUR health in lockdown.
Look after your physical and mental health by adopting these simple rules:
- Wake up at a normal time
What time would you get up on a certain day if we were not in lockdown? Keep that schedule. For example, if you normally get up at 6:00am for work, then get up at 6:00am.
- Start the day with a green smoothie
Get your nutrients, by making this a habit. Simply blend up things like; Spinach, Celery, Kale…along with Berries, Oranges, Lemon…If you have it, add some protein powder.
- Drink at least 2L of water every day
If you carry around a water bottle with you at all times, you will drink more water. Pretty simple. If you find yourself struggling to drink lots of water, down 2 glasses in the morning, lunch and evening.
- Spend some time thinking about your breath
Yes, breath. Take just 5 minutes to sit alone, and focus on breathing in, and breathing out. Take this further by going for longer, or focusing on holding your breath after a few rounds.
- Stretch
In the morning, or in the evening…Think about your lower back, your neck and hips. Stretch out to the best of your ability. It doesn’t have to be for a long time, but make it a habit. Click here for some ideas.
- Get some vitamin D
Even if the sun isn’t shining, try to (safely) get outside, and get real light. You will feel more awake, and happy.
If you follow along to these steps and think about your health in lockdown, you are guaranteed to feel better. We don’t know how long this lockdown will go for, so it is important to establish good habits, as soon as possible.
