Welcome to The Olympic Pools and Fitness Centre!
At our facility, your safety, comfort, and enjoyment are our top priorities. To ensure a smooth experience for everyone, we’ve established clear lane swimming guidelines. Whether you’re training for a competition, improving your fitness, or simply enjoying a leisurely swim, these rules help us maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all.

Choosing the Right Lane

Our lanes are clearly marked with the following categories to match your pace:

  1. Fast Lane: For experienced swimmers maintaining a vigorous, continuous pace (e.g., lap swimmers, triathletes).
  2. Medium Lane: For steady, moderate-paced swimmers.
  3. Slow Lane: For those swimming at a relaxed or slower pace.
  4. Recreation Lane: Ideal for casual swimming, water walking, or gentle exercise.

Please self-assess your speed honestly before entering a lane. If you’re unsure, ask a lifeguard for guidance!

Swim Clockwise & Share the Space

All lanes follow a clockwise circular pattern to keep traffic flowing smoothly. To avoid collisions:

  • Stay to the left side of the lane.
  • Allow faster swimmers to pass at the end of the lane (never in the middle). Or let them pass safely to your right side while swimming.
  • Check for oncoming swimmers before entering a lane.
  • Rest at the corner (not the middle) if taking a break.
  • Do not push off right before someone else is coming in to turn.

Lifeguard Guidance

Our lifeguards are here to keep everyone safe. If they suggest moving to a different lane, please don’t be offended! This may happen if:

  • A lane becomes overcrowded.
  • Your pace no longer matches the lane’s speed.
  • Adjustments are needed for safety or efficiency.

Your cooperation helps us maintain balance and ensures all swimmers have a positive experience.

General Etiquette Reminders

  • No diving in lanes (except designated areas).
  • Avoid stopping abruptly—move to the side if needed.
  • Be mindful of others; keep equipment (kickboards, fins) clear of the lane.
  • Shower before entering the pool to help keep our water clean.
  • No freediving equipment in swimming lanes (large fins).
